Misplaced Blame

Just after midnight this morning, a 19-year-old kid from Levittown, PA was drag racing on Aramingo Avenue in Philadelphia and struck and killed someone.
A friend of mine who resides not far from where the incident occurred, posted on Facebook today that they're tired of the Philly suburbs (as well as Camden County, NJ) blaming Philly for their crime problems, and that they all need to "stfu."
I couldn't agree more.
My comment on their post is as follows:
"As a current Bensalem resident and a native Philadelphian, it pisses me off too. I read an article today written by some local dipshit that said 'While Philadelphia authorities might not prosecute for retail theft, Bucks County authorities do, especially when the value is almost $1150.00.'"
He also opened with some shit about makeup making ugly people pretty.
Pretty cringe.
He posted it in the local fb group and a fellow resident also mocked him for it.
[for those of you who are curious and want to read this reporter's very primitively-written article, here it is: https://delawarevalleynews.com/2023/08/22/two-girls-wanted-for-stealing-makeup-at-bensalem-kohls/]
I'm so sick of people in this town shitting on Philly, especially when most have family from Philly.
Or when they call certain parts ghetto. I got into it with someone recently. I said try going to my friends block near 11th and Rising Sun, or to 10th and Cecil B Moore, then tell me how "ghetto" Bensalem is.. 🙄
If I didn't like my house and block, and if real estate wasn't so expensive I'd seriously consider moving because I hate the snobbery."
Now I'm not going to sit here and pretend that Philadelphia is this perfect city. Far from it.
I acknowledge that it has many problems and there are parts that aren't the safest to be in.
There are drug issues, gun issues, poverty. I'm not going to sit here and lie to anyone or myself.
However, I find the pretentious attitudes of outsiders toward Philly to be quite irritating.
As I stated in a previous blog post [https://www.gilbertdriveproductions.com/post/twatty-little-town] "Well don't let the door hit your ass on the way out."
And yes, as my friend stated, just stfu.
I understand that I speak from a privileged position, as I don't reside in the city and haven't for quite sometime.
Truth be told, the only reason I reside in Bucks County since 2005? My husband is a Bensalem native. We found an apartment close to his parents and sisters, and since we were expecting, we wanted to be as close to familial support as possible. Furthermore, I wanted to be as far as possible from my toxic situation. After almost 4 years of apartment life in Trevose, we became homeowners in Bensalem. It is also not a perfect town. In fact, there's plenty of assholes here. But I like my block and my house. Everything here is quiet and convenient, and still have pretty easy access to get to center city in about 30 minutes if I so desire.
So I'm going to stay put.
